Casa Ukraina in Turin

A welcoming place for families who have escaped the horrors of war in Ukraine

Casa Ukraina in Turin is a refuge dedicated to supporting Ukrainian families who have fled war. We offer a safe and supportive space, guided by the vision of a peaceful future.

In these two years of war, a total of more than 40 refugees have been hosted.
Today, 26 mothers, grandmothers and children live here. We provide food and accommodation in a large 3-story house with a beautiful garden. There are rooms for everyone, common areas, a playroom for children, a bright convivial dining room, kitchen, laundry and a large study room. We have helped to educate the children, provided assistance with bureaucratic procedures and with everyday needs.
The hosted families organize themselves to cook independently, we replenish the pantry with food every day. Over 35,000 meals have been provided in two years

The building was a recently abandoned convent of nuns.
It was acquired at the beginning of the war to dedicate it to this initiative. In two weeks, with great effort, but with great enthusiasm, dozens of volunteers came to tidy up the building, painting it, putting up wallpaper, equipping it with beds and furniture, reactivating every system, and making it suitable to host refugees.

This project is made possible thanks to private volunteers who have contributed their time, money and experience. So many people with a big heart.
No public funds have ever been received, nor have contributions from the state or from entities ever been received.

The project coordinator is Paola Chiari with the help of Svitlana Bubenchykova, Zhaklin Mala, Gloriana Cumino, Bilous Tetiana. Collaborators: Cristina Raviolo, Orlando Levi, Franco Lima, Elisa Sighicelli, Valter Canuto, Aldo Vavassori, Caterina Filippini, Paula Bracarense, Gianluigi Ricuperati, Ruben Levi, Daniela Torri, and many other volunteers.

A special thanks to the Aics association that helps us with food. For logistics and all the bureaucratic aspects, a sincere thanks to the Civil Protection of Piedmont, the Civil Protection Department of the Municipality of Turin, the Turin Police, the Ukrainian Consulate, and Sermig Servizio Missionari Giovani.
